A San Francisco Treat

Hubby and I are just wrapping up a busy and fabulous visit from his parents. Thanks for coming all the way to Cali to visit us, B & P! Some photos from our day trip to San Francisco:

Grace Cathedral on California Street, all decked out in loveliness for Palm Sunday.

Waiting for the cable car.

Keep arms and legs inside the trolley!

Loved our delicious dinner at Venticello in Nob Hill.
These two are the best!

Punny Portraiture

Cubism, impressionism, surrealism, minimalism - I love pretty much all the isms when it comes to art. I was recently introduced to the work of White Rabbit (the online persona of Hillary White); and I don't know which ism she employs, but I do enjoy her sense of humor when it comes to the art of portraiture!

A few of White Rabbit's pieces:

Who knew Optimus Prime looked chic in a blazer and gold chain purse?

Check out more of White Rabbit's work.
She does funny reappropriations with Sesame Street characters too!

All Who Wander

Whenever Hubby and I finally have a few hours together on a pretty day, we like to go on adventures. On one recent day, we turned what was supposed to be a quick jaunt to watch the surfers into a 5-hour exploration of the Santa Cruz coastline.

Some phone pics I snapped from the day:

We found a rocky cliff where huge waves crash and sea lions play nearby.

"Not all those who wander are lost" - J.R.R. Tolkien

Crazy kids and their fancy forts...

A few days later, I attended my first Roller Derby match! These girls are hardcore. If you ever get the opportunity to watch a 'bout' - take it!

Whip it, girls!

3 Cheers for St Pats

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone! It's that special time of year, my other favorite holiday (second only to Halloween). CHEERS, young lads and lassies ~

A few of my St Patty's inspired outfits from yesteryear :

(Remember when I was a brunette??)

I think I was going for Irish flag?
From an Irish poem called 'The Four-Leaved Shamrock' :
I'll seek a four-leaved shamrock in all the fairy dells,
And if I find the charmed laves, oh, how I'll weave my spells!
I would not waste my magic might on diamond, pearl, or gold,
For treasure tires the weary sense, such triumph is but cold;
But I would play the enchanter's part, in casting bliss around -
Oh - not a tear, nor aching heart, should in the world be found!
Be safe and enjoy the good company of friends and family!

A Familiar Place

As I was thumbing through this month's issue of Vogue magazine, one particular image in the Mario Testino photo spread stopped me in my tracks...

Why does this location look so familiar to me?  I thought.
Wait, I think I did a photoshoot in that exact spot!

I checked out the caption under the picture to make sure; Yep - the Hie Shinto Shrine in Nagatacho, downtown Tokyo. We lived just down the street from this shrine in Japan! The day this picture was taken, my friend Chanyn Cheree and I had some fun snapping photos in and around this gorgeous piece of living Japanese history. Check out that photoshoot HERE.
Model Carolyn Murphy did Tokyo good as the star of The Emperor's New Clothes in Vogue. Here's the rest of the Testino-Murphy collaboration:

In the studio of world-renowned anime/manga artist Takashi Murakami.

I never looked this glam while riding the Tokyo metro.
But I know someone who always did... lookin' at you, Katie May!

It's a small world after all ~

Pottery for Birthdays

Many of you know I'm a big fan of making presents for my loved ones' birthdays. For my mom-in-law and little brother's b'days, I took a trip back to Petroglyph here in Santa Cruz for some mug painting fun. Here's how it turned out :

If there's two things that mom-in-law Pammy appreciates, it's her morning coffee and thoughtful design. I tried my hand at painting an Ikat pattern on a mug for her. It's actually easier than it looks!

And when I visit home in Texas, my brother Jamie calls our coffee time together 'joe with my bro.' Plus, the boy loves camouflage print. I'd never painted camo before, but Google Images helped out a bunch.

I think he liked his gift!

Spring Has Sprung

Spring is around the corner! Is your closet ready for the season? If you live in a climate like we do here in the Bay Area, your spring wardrobe may consist of light layers as the warm days turn to chilly, foggy nights.

Because I'm still a bit stuck in winter mode, I found a little inspiration from Fashion Magazine and the Reserved spring lookbook which features my latest favorite model Cara Delevingne. The gal's got killer brows!
