Carey in Cathedral

British actress Carey Mulligan has always shined in my eyes, from her first film Pride & Prejudice to her true debut in An Education to her recent triumph as Daisy in The Great Gatsby. Plus, she's married to the Mumford in the band Mumford & Sons, which is pretty rock star.

I spotted her in a gorgeous spread for Flaunt Magazine that I thought y'all would enjoy. I like the Spanish Mission/Lady of Guadalupe theme, and of course Carey looks ethereal as all heaven.

Glorious Gallerie

The charming mirrored tables and chests featured in a recent Z Gallerie newsletter inspired me to try my hand at piecing together a room. So I (somewhat crudely) styled a digital living space with a few of the store's pieces I've had my eye on :

If you've ever wandered through the wonderland that is Z Gallerie, you may have experienced a symptom I can only describe as interior design lust. I envision the store's quirky furniture, art and accessories filling all the nooks and crannies in my apartment. Suddenly I must have that ridiculously large bunch of peacock feathers and cannot leave the store without that silver pleather sectional couch that converts into 3 different configurations. It's decor madness!
A few other pieces on my Want List from Z Gallerie:
A. Harrison Chaise Lounge  |  B. Borghese Mirrored End Table  |  C. Casablanca Dhurrie Rug  |  D. Raya Vase in Black
E. Raya Vase in Gold  |  F. Rhinoceros Sculpture  |  G. Mirrored Chest of Drawers  |  H. Portofino Pavilion Tent
I. Crane Table Lamp

Viva Vino

Another of my birthday surprises for Hubby was a visit to a local vineyard and winery called Hunter Hill. In addition to the fab wine tasting, we brought snacks from Whole Foods to have a picnic after a tour of the grounds. Does it get any more picturesque than this?

I guess they ran out of puppies...

Yep, that's where the wine is made!

Summer Concert Look

Summertime is ripe with outdoor concerts, fairs and festivals. So I styled a breezy little outfit that's perfect for those occasions. I like to wear comfy wedges to concerts so I can see the stage better - I'm short!

A. Floral Crop Top from TopShop  |  B. Wide Leg Trousers from TopShop  |  C. Flower Headband from TopShop  |  D. Caracas Straw Tote by Mar Y Sol  |  E, G. Enamel Bangles from J.Crew  |  F. Gold Bracelet from Bauble Bar
H. Wedges by Kate Spade

Which concerts or festivals have you attended this summer?

Whale Watching

My hubby just turned the big 3-0. So for his birthday, I set up a couple fun surprise activities, the first of which was a whale watching tour! And while we had every intention of seeing giant ocean mammals, as it turns out, you cannot always predict what Mother Nature is going to show you.

Although the proprietor of the tours told me that just days prior, other tours had spotted grey whales, humpback whales, even a blue whale! But alas, our whale watching tour was whale-less. Still it was great to be out in the bay, and we saw many other interesting creatures. Some photos from the tour:

Sealions love buoys.

Went through a fog bank - a bit creepy when you're out on the water

We made friends with the captain. He showed us all his neat whale-spotting and sailing gadgets.

It's really difficult to tell what this is from above the water, but the captain said it was a Mola Mola AKA a Sunfish. Here's how they really look:

We spotted several packs of sea otters. They were munching on sea urchins, cracking them open with rocks. So cute! They're like the puppies of the ocean.

We will definitely whale watch again. I've gotta' see one of those enormous creatures in person.
If you're ever in the Monterey Bay area and want to take a whale watching tour,
check out Stagnaro Charters. They're the best!

17 Mile Drive

As Hubby and I have planted temporary roots in Cali, we take any opportunity to enjoy the local must-sees. In Monterey and Carmel, just south of us, is a picturesque display of central California coastline known as 17 Mile Drive.

This drive snakes around multi-million dollar estates, Links-approved golf courses, and dozens of scenic stops where nature will take your breath away! Some photos we snapped on our drive:

Bird Rock

Can you spot the sunning sealions?

Called The Ghost Tree for its twisted shape and bleached-white bark.
The Lodge and the Pebble Beach Golf Course

We finished the drive with a stroll around Carmel village and thin crust pizza at La Bicyclette. I feel blessed every day to live in such a neat part of the world!
