A Happy Birthday

When my friend Jolie asked me how I wanted to celebrate my birthday, I answered honestly: I want to go to the aquarium! And go we did. She even set up a behind-the-scenes tour for us before the Monterey Bay Aquarium opened that day. We met baby sharks in the nursery, saw feedings, and said Hello to my favorites: the jellyfish and the otters.

My girlfriends and I also celebrated at my Hubby's basketball game, complete with cake!

These women are the best. It was a very happy birthday indeed!

Au Revoir 2014

Buddha said, "Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future. Concentrate the mind on the present moment." Though I do not long for days gone by, I think it's cathartic to reminisce about the past year via photograph. Slightly belated, but here's a fun glance at my 2014.

2014 was quite a ride. Try to top that, 2015!

My Night at the Museum

What does the ocean represent to you? That's the question that the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History posed to local artists here in the Bay Area. Hundreds answered, some were chosen. And I am humbly honored to report that my submission, alongside the works of very talented and inspiring artists, now hangs proudly at the Santa Cruz MAH.

Our collective works are part of a museum collaborative called Everybody's Ocean, a curatorial potluck of sorts that celebrates fine art through the subject of the sea and nature. I submitted my painting Tsunami From Underneath (2014), the abstract I created to examine and interpret the tsunami following the Japanese earthquake my family and I survived in 2011.

Admittedly I was a bit embarrassed to deliver my piece among the dozens of long-established and incredibly talented artists in the show. But I can only hope that my very personal painting adds another layer of depth and perspective to what is sure to be a successful exhibition.

I blush with pride to be part of this unique and exciting museum collaboration. I can't think of a better place to celebrate art and the ocean than Surf City itself. Congrats to the other featured artists - your works are truly amazing - and thank you, Santa Cruz MAH!

It's 2015 Y'all!

~  Happy New Year  ~

I hope that y'all had fabulous, fun-filled and safe New Year's Eve celebrations! Instead of making the traditional resolution this year, Hubby and I wrote down our goals for 2015. Many of them lofty, but all of them feasible and exciting. Here are a few of mine:

Adopt a puppy.

Launch professional artist website.

Travel down the coast to Big Sur.

Pay off student loans.

Spend a weekend in Napa Valley.

Finally buy a new car!
