Art Deco Inspired Commission

My friend Betsy had been throwing around the idea of commissioning a special piece from me for several months, she was simply waiting for an art concept. Then the inspiration came to her when she visited the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. She showed me a photo she took of an art deco style abstract with the simple exclamation "I like this! Do something like this."

So I used the MoMA piece as basic inspiration for this commission painting, throwing in specific colors she requested and matte textures - even metallic spraypaint.

I had to carefully tape off the sections of the painting I wanted to spraypaint. Metallic spraypaint tends to run easily, so this step was tedious but important. It paid off though!

Unlike the piece at the MoMA, I added a metallic border. I thought it tied the whole thing together nicely.

Thank you for the fun commission, Betsy and Pat! I loved painting this piece for you, and I hope it brings nice color and texture to your walls. Good luck in L.A.!
